A special exhibition invites visitors at the Industrial Museum, taking them on a journey through time, where the marvel of the big screen meets the tale of an island with a deep love for culture. Titled “The World in 35, 16, 8 mm… Cinema in 20th Century Syros”, the exhibition presents the development of cinematic activity on the island during the previous century.
Screenings, archival material, and authentic period items such as rare photographs and projection machines offer visitors the opportunity to explore everyday life in Syros through original footage. At the same time, the exhibition highlights the first screening venues and the establishment of film culture on the island, as well as in Greece generally.

The exhibition, organised by the Municipality of Syros–Hermoupolis, in collaboration with the Association of the Friends of the Ermoupolis Technological Culture Centre (KETEPO), hosted in the temporary exhibition hall of the Industrial Museum of Ermoupoli, opened on Saturday, March 28, 2026, marking the beginning of an important anniversary program of events.
It has been the first official event celebrating 200 years since the naming of Ermoupoli, launching a wider series of cultural activities that will take place throughout the year.
This initiative highlights the key role of Syros as a longstanding cultural center, reaffirming its strong connection to the arts and creativity. The exhibition will run until November 2026, with free admission for the public, offering both residents and visitors the opportunity to discover the cinematic history of the island in an engaging and personal manner.
Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 09:00 – 14:00
