Michalis Pelekanos’ carpentry workshop

Kornilakis tannery, Ground floor

Michalis Pelekanos worked at the Kornilakis factory for 66 years. Though he retired as a tanner, he continued to work there as a carpenter until the end of his life. A true artisan, anything he touched came to life—from traditional cycladic sofas and fishing boat rigging components, to komboloi (worry beads), carved and lathed consoles, walking sticks, and spinning tops, often inventing custom tools in order to bring his projects to life. A faithful reconstruction of his workshop—complete with workbenches, lathes, tools, and his personal touch in the space—was inaugurated on February 17, 2011, by the Association of Friends of the Center for Technical Culture.
