Greek steam navigation – Neorion shipyard
Katsimantis building, Hall 4
With the founding of Greece’s first steamship company in 1857 Hermoupolis was formally inaugurated into the industrial era. A feat of 19th-century engineering, the paddle wheel of the steamship Patris, was recovered in 2007 and placed in the museum’s outdoor area in 2010. It stands alongside other machinery once belonging to mechanical workshops and the Neorion shipyard.
