Katsimantis building, Hall 3

Here, visitors can enjoy exhibits of the island’s wooden shipbuilding, a craft that developed in Syros after 1828, when refugees from Chios and other islands transformed part of the harbor into shipyards and boatyards. The hall also hosts objects from the shipwreck of the steamship Patris, a rare four-cylinder Doxford marine engine, a model vessel with an ellipsoidal stern built by shipwright Michail Koufoudakis, as well as the award he received at the Bordeaux Naval Exhibition (1907).
